NKU Campus in the Fall

August 8, 2022 - Two 鶹ý students are the recipients of a scholarship award by Alpha Sigma Lambda, an adult national honor society organization.

Anna Dailey and Asia Whitmore are the recipients of a $2,500 scholarship from Alpha Sigma Lambda. No other students in Kentucky or the Greater Cincinnati area were selected.

“I was beyond thrilled to hear I had won this scholarship,” Whitmore, an international studies major and political science minor, said. “I went back to school to improve the lives of my two kiddos, so having as little college debt as possible when I graduate is a must. Every little bit helps and motivates me to move forward.”

College affordability tends to be one of the biggest obstacles for adult learners to achieve their educational dreams. Many of NKU’s returning adult learners are no longer eligible for financial aid, while others need more assistance than what is available to them.

“The Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society has provided an opportunity for adult learners to successfully complete their education while reducing any anxiety and stress about affording college,” Sara Conwell, assistant director of Adult Learner Programs and Services (ALPS), said. “ALPS is extremely delighted that both of our scholarship submissions were selected and awarded for the 2022-23 year; not only because we were the only school in Kentucky, and the region, to have recipients, but that we have had three adult learners receive this scholarship within the past two years.”

ALPS is dedicated to assisting adult students in the NKU community through advising, campus resources, and educational pursuits. The office brings together the campus community to offer programs that are accessible, flexible and geared toward the academic success of NKU’s adult students.
