Program Type: Undergraduate

Degree Awarded:  Pre-vet students typically obtain a B.S. in Biological Sciences (cellular/molecular/genetics track, ecology/evolution/organismal track, or general track) or Biochemistry, but any degree will work as long as the veterinary entry requirements are met.


If you’re passionate about science and animals and confident you want to pursue a veterinary career after completing your undergraduate work, get a head start with NKU’s College of Arts and Sciences. You’ll learn from and work directly with our highly-rated faculty in your chosen major while receiving personalized guidance from advisors who know the field and can help you fulfill all the pre-veterinary requirements for admission to veterinary school. Your education at NKU will help you gain the experience you need to succeed and make a difference as a veterinarian.

  • State-of-the-Art Learning Facilities: We have facilities with teaching and research laboratories and on-site animal housing, care and testing. The vivarium houses rats, mice, fish, and frogs and our aquatics and ectotherm lab house native fish, amphibians, and reptiles.
  • Supportive Learning Community: With organizations like our Health Professions Club (HPC), you’ll find a supportive learning community to help prepare you for veterinary school.
  • Numerous Financial Aid Opportunities: NKU students are eligible for numerous merit- and needs-based scholarships. Scholarships are also available for students pursuing STEM majors, like the Greaves Scholarship, which covers full in-state tuition and books.
