Shallow Bowl
This is a shallow, bowl shaped piece of Iraya Mangyan basketry with a lighter colored diamond pattern on the inside; the rest is a black or dark brown color. The rim has a herring bone design. "Mangyan" is the collective name of seven ethnolinguistic groups inhabiting most of the highland region of Mindoro, the seventh largest island in the northern end of the vast basin of the Sulu Sea, south of the Batangas and the mainland southern Luzon, and west of the Bicol region.
